    Nearly all New York City public school students have access to inexpensive, energy-dense foods within a 5-minute walk of school. Low-income and Hispanic students had the highest level of exposure to the food outlets studied here.

    Current physical activity guidelines seem to be appropriate to prevent excess of body fat in European adolescents. However, participation in vigorous physical activity might have additional importance in preventing obesity.

Blood Disorders in Public Health: Making the Connection A national, comprehensive, organized, coordinated, institutionalized, sustainable public health response to blood disorders based on the three core functions and the ten essential services of public health. Immediate action needs to be taken to improve surveillance and monitoring, increase public and provider awareness, increase the use of evidence-based practices, and enhance epidemiologic research on the causes, prevention, and treatment of conditions resulting in adverse outcomes.

The Project MOVE Team were winners of the 2009 Charles C. Shepard Science Award in the category of Prevention for their paper, "Cost Effectiveness of Community-Based Physical Activity Interventions," which was published in AJPM in December 2008 (Am J Prev Med 2008; 35:578-588). The Charles C. Shepard Science Award is the pre-eminent honor recognizing excellence in science at CDC/ATSDR.
